What is geo-targeting?

It’s a method of determining the precise location of the website user so you may deliver specific content to that user based on their location. For example, let’s say you have a luncheon cafe located on Main Street in Sarasota, Florida. A tourist is walking in the area of Main Street and feels hungry for lunch. He uses his phone to search “restaurants near me.” By using geo-targeting, search engines would calculate the tourist’s current location and provide your cafe as a relevant search result. The tourist sees that your cafe is one block away, loves your menu on your website and is now on his way to eat lunch in your business.

This sounds great, so what’s the hitch? Although Google is the most popular search engine in the world, 34.7% of searches are made using Bing, Yahoo and a growing number of alternative engines.
